The ASSIST AGM was held on Tuesday 27 October at Moor Theatre Delicatessen. We had a very enjoyable evening looking back at the past year with our supporters, ASSIST in the wider world and our plans for the future.
The NATIONAL COALITION FOR INDEPENDENT ACTION (NCIA) is concerned with the independence of the voluntary sector, and protecting the capacity for dissent. This was their Sheffield event, and brought together voluntary organisations in Sheffield in a very stimulating and encouraging debate about the need for independence and the challenges of maintaining it in a contract culture.

We appear to be in the midst of a revolution of sorts. In just a few days (and at the time of writing) nearly 430,000 people have signed a petition asking the UK government to accept more people who are fleeing war and 83,000 have pledged to attend a day of mass action. Thousands of people have offered room in their homes to host refugees. Thousands are lobbying their councils to accept Syrian refugee families in their area.
