Sheffield University Film Unit is a professional quality independent cinema located deep within the University of Sheffield Union of Students. They show films all through Freshers’ week, and then every Friday, Saturday & Sunday.
We are excited to report that they have chosen ASSIST as their charity of the year and are offering us some free tickets for asylum seekers for each showing.
A huge thank you to the Film Unit for supporting us!

ASSIST Sheffield will soon be delivering another ‘Asylum the Basics’ training session.
These sessions are excellent for providing background information and awareness for anyone working with those within the asylum system. They are also a valuable opportunity to raise awareness of asylum issues with key personnel.

TalkingGigs is a brand new live experience which gives you the chance to hear top artists from the UK and around the world, in intimate venues, play and talk about their music, instruments, culture, countries … and to ask questions about whatever aspects of the music interest you.
Charles Ritchie, who organises TalkingGigs, has decided to use future gigs in the series to raise funds for ASSIST. THANK YOU, CHARLES!

ASSIST were recently nominated in the category “Outstanding Achievement in Involving and Supporting Volunteers” of the Voluntary Action Sheffield ‘Make a Difference Sheffield Awards’.
I’m proud to report that we were Runners Up in our category. The winners were “Volunteer Libraries Sheffield”>

The majority of direct Welfare payments and Bus Passes are provided by ASSIST on Wednesdays and the remainder are provided by the Friday Team. There is a one and a half hour slot for clients to receive their payments and passes.
