The ASSIST office is in need of Admin volunteers – can you help? The ASSIST office supports the work of all of ASSIST’s 200+ volunteers spread over 15 individual teams – who do everything from client casework to grant applications. It is also the base for ASSIST’s two full-time and three part-time staff.

In June this year we celebrated Refugee week by holding a Fundraising Dinner at Channing Hall and we are pleased to report that the event raised £1,700 for ASSIST. This was a fantastic total considering it was the very first time we’d put on an event of this type and magnitude. Our thanks go to all the 98 wonderful guests who came to the dinner. We really do appreciate your support (and your patience when parts of the catering operation didn’t go entirely to plan!)
What’s more fun than a bake sale? ……A friendly baking competition with prizes to be won of course! It’s fundraising time, and in honour of the impending return of GBBO to our screens, the Red Deer are holding a bake off of their very own on Thurs 1 Sept, between 12 noon and closing time. The University of Sheffield are pleased to offer five scholarships for those who have sought refuge in the UK. There are 2 different types of English language courses and the scholarships cover the cost of tuition fees. The scholarships are available for students who are 18+ and who meet certain criteria. Mango Disco’s INTERNATIONAL SOUNDCLASH WEEKENDER is the first ever not-for-profit crowdfunded international music festival organised in Sheffield. Following the success of previous Mango Disco events it will be hosted in several venues across the city during 20, 21, 22 of October 2016. All profits will be donated to three charities MSF, Assist (Sheffield) and Hummingbird Project. This is a crowd-funded event so get behind it if you can.
We were approached by ASSIST Sheffield in November 2015 in respect of Mr X, whose present immigration status is a refused asylum seeker, having entered the United Kingdom in 2001. BACKGROUND
A group will be walking 10 miles visiting five churches in South Rotherham to raise money for ASSIST on 23rd July. The five churches walk is a beautiful 10 mile circular route. Most of the route is along ancient footpaths and bridleways, which have been used for hundreds of years by local people and visitors alike. Stepping in their footsteps you will visit the picturesque villages of Wales, Harthill, Thorpe Salvin, South Anston and Todwick, and be able to appreciate some of Rotherham’s finest church architecture.
