ASSIST now holds regular Art Workshops where asylum seekers and refugees can get together, enjoy a sociable couple of hours, and do some artwork together. Some of the artwork is used to produce the wonderful cards that we sell on the ASSIST stall. The workshops are supported by Carmel Page and are held at: The Christadelphian Hall Cemetery Road Sharrow Sheffield S11 8FP
Do you feel that your community group, school, college, congregation or other organisation should hear first-hand about the experience of seeking asylum? Would you like to spread the truth about why asylum seekers in our city become destitute? Would you like to know more about the work ASSIST does to support them? Nothing conveys the reality of life as an asylum seeker as powerfully as hearing the story of someone who has first-hand experience.
ASSIST Sheffield will soon be delivering another ‘Asylum the Basics’ training session. These sessions are excellent for providing background information and awareness for anyone working with those within the asylum system. They are also a valuable opportunity to raise awareness of asylum issues with key personnel.
TalkingGigs is a brand new live experience which gives you the chance to hear top artists from the UK and around the world, in intimate venues, play and talk about their music, instruments, culture, countries … and to ask questions about whatever aspects of the music interest you. Charles Ritchie, who organises TalkingGigs, has decided to use future gigs in the series to raise funds for ASSIST. THANK YOU, CHARLES!
