Sarah Orola

Sarah joined ASSIST as Client Support Manager in September 2024.

Hi, Sarah here - your new Client Support Manager at ASSIST. I have been working in the third sector for around 5 years now (time really flies!). With a specialism in asylum-seeker and refugee advocacy, my core aim is to enhance their quality of life in the UK. Having previously worked at Refugee Action within a Management and Safeguarding Officer capacity, I have a wealth of experience to contribute to ASSIST’s continued development.

Asylum seekers face a multitude of systemic barriers when accessing services in the UK whilst pursuing their claims. We have so much work to do as a society to be welcoming and to celebrate diversity. Coming from a migrant background, I had first-hand insight into the stark realities of the migrant journey from my grandmother’s experience. It fuels my compassionate approach which echoes throughout my work.

Fun fact: I am a published poet. In my spare time, I attend creative writing courses, facilitate poetry workshops and perform at many festivals across the UK including Migration Matters in Sheffield, Embark Fest in London and Blackfest in Liverpool.

Recently, I had the honour of reading my poetry for DLA Piper in partnership with the UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency for World Refugee Day. It is a privilege to use my art to champion for asylum seekers and refugees whilst also platforming Palestinian writers in corporate spaces. Political apathy is a choice. I cannot be apathetic in the face of injustices.
