The Refugee Council has joined 30 other refugee organisations and faith groups in signing a joint open letter to the Home Secretary on standards of proof in asylum decision-making.
The recent Windrush scandal, still fresh in our minds, lifted the lid on some of the practises of Home Office and the very real and concerning impact they have on peoples’ lives. The sad truth is that the hostile environment surrounding decision-making is no new concept at all but endemic across the Home Office, impacting many people including those seeking asylum.
In this open letter to Sajid Javid we add our voice to many others – including campaigning and community groups - and call for a more humane approach when dealing with asylum applications, as well reasonable application of the standard of proof.
