City of Sanctuary is a movement to build a culture of welcome and hospitality for people seeking Sanctuary. In 2007, with the support of the City Council, Sheffield became the UK’s first ‘City of Sanctuary’ - a city that takes pride in the welcome it offers to people in need of safety.

ASSIST and its supporters help to protect the humanity of some of the most marginalised people in society. By attending to the mental and physical needs of those who've initially been refused protection, ASSIST helps to rebuild their self esteem and well-being. That is why, with ASSIST support, many go on to submit successful applications and become useful and contributing members of society.
