On Saturday 14th October from 10:30am to 4pm, we will be holding a Celebration, Lunch and AGM, titled ‘Celebrating 20 years of ASSIST Sheffield: Forged in Steel Solidarity’, at Theatre Deli, (Cuthbert House, Arley Street, Sheffield, S2 4QP).
In 2003, ASSIST (Asylum Seekers Support Initiative - Short Term) was established as a response to the introduction of enforced destitution for those who had been refused sanctuary. Since then, ASSIST Sheffield has been at the forefront of the city’s response to the UK government's increasingly hostile and inhumane policies targeting people seeking sanctuary and has embodied the spirit of the Steel City in its collaborative fight against forced destitution.
ASSIST has thrived when nurturing community, connection and collaboration. We are so honoured to be partners with such incredible people and organisations that truly reflect our city’s commitment to social justice. We would love to invite everyone who has been a part of our journey so far to the 20th Anniversary Celebration, and we hope to see as many of you as possible!
We have an amazing line up of musical acts including:
- One World Choir
- Arash Sabet
- DJs Omaueze
We also have the amazing Spectrum Theatre performing their acclaimed play Sanctuary!
Not only are we offering great entertainment, we'll be facilitating educational workshops led by NACCOM and Migration Yorkshire. We are also hosting Kaleido Arts for Wellbeing and Solace Women's Craft group as facilitators of arts workshops.
Delicious food will be provided by Open Kitchen Social Club and Icarus & Apollo!
Please note: The event will be ticketed. This is due to the venue size. We are also encouraging pay-as-you-feel donations towards the tickets to help us cover event costs, and also to raise money towards our vital work.
We don't want cost to be a barrier to anyone attending though - so please email 20years@assistsheffield.org.uk if you need a free/lower cost ticket. All tickets for ASSIST clients are free!
