Challenging asylum destitution

ASSIST's Super Saturday

2 Dec 2012 On Saturday the 3rd of November, ASSIST ran a stall at the Peace and Craft fair selling affordable Christmas presents and uniquely designed cards, previously created by asylum seekers and volunteers at a craft event. ASSIST provided informative literature and enthusiastic volunteers to attract and enlighten the public about the charity. It is fair to say that the event was a success, with a few donation forms well placed upon the table.

Now you can give to ASSIST while you shop!

25 Nov 2012 Do you need a last minute present for someone? Can’t face the crush at Meadowhall? Why not do it online and raise money for ASSIST? ASSIST will get £5 for every person who signs up to “Give as you Live” by clicking on the link below (after they spend £10 online). Give as you Live brings together thousands of stores that have signed up to donate a percentage of every purchase made online to ASSIST without charging you a penny more.

Kathryn Tickell performs in aid of ASSIST

16 Oct 2012 Folk star Kathryn Tickell performed ‘Northumbrian Voices’ at the Library Theatre on Wednesday 24th October in aid of ASSIST. It was a great concert and we got the chance to chat to lots of people and tell them about the plight of asylum seekers and the works of ASSIST. A big Thank you to Kathryn.

AVIVA contribute to the World Over concert

21 Sep 2012 ASSIST would like to thank AVIVA who have generously contributed £300 towards the cost of the 2012 World Over Concert. This means that even more of the funds we raised at the concert can go directly to supporting destitute asylum seekers in Sheffield. Thank you, AVIVA!

Abigail Washburn welcomes ASSIST onto the stage

30 Aug 2012 On August 29th ASSIST shared the stage with the wonderful Abigail Washburn at The Greystones. Abigail is a singing, songwriting, Illinois-born, Nashville-based clawhammer banjo player. Her latest album is called ‘City of Refuge’, which is why it seemed particularly appropriate to ask her if ASSIST could connect with her concert and tell the audience about the experience of asylum seekers in Sheffield.

Focus on a Fundraiser - Esther in the Great North Run

23 Aug 2012 Esther Northcott will be running in the Great North Run on 2 September in aid of ASSIST. If you would like to sponsor her, go to Esther’s JustGiving page. Thank you for supporting us Esther, and good luck!

Urgent appeal for monthly donations

5 Aug 2012 A reduction of grant income has forced us to reduce our support to the most needy asylum seekers from £20 to £15 per week. We need to raise an additional £60,000 to maintain even our present, reduced, level of support to asylum seekers in the coming year. Can you help us? Could you afford a monthly donation to ASSIST?
